I went through a divorce about six years ago and it cost me just about everything; job, financial security, etc. Through trial and error, drama and many, many dollars, my ex and I seem to have a working relationship — yes, relationship– and we have found a way to work together.
I’m not out to make this a show about the whining of wounded, vengeful parents and ex’s pointing the finger of blame at the other. I want to find what is considered a good divorce. I want to find practical things anyone can do without losing face since that seems to be a big motivator with divorcing and divorced couples.
I want to find little things that fighting parents can do to make their lives easier, less stressful and most importantly, to defend their children against the ravages of divorce. A recent study reveals that most–if not all– of the negative aspects of divorce for children can be negated if divorcing parents get along.
Arkansas has the second-highest divorce rate in the U.S., only slightly behind Nevada. So we really have a problem here but it’s a national problem that arguably is nibbling at the fabric of our society.
